A Rustic Barn Wedding in Cambridge

We traveled up to Cambridgeshire over the weekend of the 11th of July to shoot Becky and Kelvin’s wedding at Cromwell’s Barn in St Ives. This was not your usual wedding and the couple wanted things to be centered around everyone having a good time – and a good time was had by all (see the reception dancing pictures)!

Becky and Kelvin chose to have a Humanist Wedding Ceremony.

The following is an extract from their website:

“The British Humanist Association is the national charity supporting and representing people who seek to live good lives without religious or superstitious beliefs. Our vision is of a world without religious privilege or discrimination, where people are free to live good lives on the basis of reason, experience and shared human values. We promote Humanism, campaign for an open society and a secular state, and work with others of different beliefs for the common good.

Humanists are atheists and agnostics who make sense of the world using reason, experience and shared human values. We take responsibility for our actions and base our ethics on the goals of human welfare, happiness and fulfillment. We seek to make the best of the one life we have by creating meaning and purpose for ourselves, individually and together.”

Yes, I got married there in 2007. It’s absolutely beautiful, but its not a traditional wedding venue, it is on a working farm so you have to contact the chap who owns the farm. His name is Mark Schweir & phone number is 01480 462173. There are no photos online as he doesn’t advertise it (word of mouth bookings). You have to view it to appreciate it so give him a call and ask him to look around!
There are two big barns, one really old one done up in medieval style, and one modern one which you can drape or light up nicely. We had 200 people to our wedding and this was the only venue in Cambridgeshire big enough to support us, and it was dirt cheap too! Good luck!

There is also a newly refurbished barn at Yelling, holds maximum 100 people, all kitted out for weddings!
