Trash The Dress reaches South Africa

High end lifestyle TV Show, TOP BILLING, in South Africa has recently featured a couple of brides “Trashing” their wedding dresses. To be fair this is not the first time it has happened over there – we have even done these shoots during trips to SA, but certainly the show has thrust it into the spotlight and wedding photographers in South Africa are reporting an influx of enquiries for a trash the dress session. The photographer featured is the very talented Jean Pierre Uys who is based in Cape Town. The phrase was coined by super creative US based wedding photographer John Michael Cooper who famously set a wedding dress on fire! Referred to by many names now… Shoot The Dress (our name :) ), Cherish The Dress, Mess The Dress, Rock The Frock… the essence of the idea is essentially the same. Why pack your dress away in a box, never to be seen again when you can create amazing, artistic and unique images wearing it once again? I have been meaning to blog a Shoot The Dress session we did back in October last year in the Drakensberg, South Africa – so I thought this would be an appropriate time.

    Cool shoot – was it all natural lighting? Can’t see evidence of flash… I agree, any exposure for TTD is good for us!

    We used a bit of off camera flash – not too much though. Canon Speedlite with transmitter.
