Fashion Workshop

I attended my first studio lighting Fashion Workshop with PAUL WHITE who also shoots wedding and portraits. He provided a wealth of knowledge with regards to Fashion lighting and posing. What softboxes to use, how far away the subject should placed away from the background in order to achieve either a darker or lighter background. This background was in fact a white seamless and is only grey in the photographs due to the model being brought a far distance away from it.

Paul set up all of the lighting for us an showed us exactly how to position things in order to feather the light, and in order to effect or not effect the background.

This is my favourite shot from the shoot due to the effortless pose

Shot with an Elinchrom Octabox which is gorgeous, soft, diffused lighting which lights the model from head to toe due to the large size of the Octabox. There is also a small light which was directed toward the background only creating that lovely vignette behind the model.

A different look styling wise called for a different feel lighting wise. Paul set up a square softbox which was not as large in size as the Octabox and therefore you can see some fall off of light down towards the bottom of the frame.

A beauty shot where the shadow side of the face was “filled in” with light using a reflector on the opposite side the the main softbox lite source.

A big thank-you to Paul for this fantastic day. I cannot wait to get into a studio and have a play around on my own with some models, stylists, make-up artists and proper lighting!
