A buzz, that’s what I got when shooting Clara B. I had sense of excitement welling up inside that I just can’t really explain. It’s like something really clicked. Don’t get me wrong, I loved shooting with each and every one of the fabulous models down in Bristol, but this was special. She is a complete natural in front of the lens. Her natural reactions and laugh out loud smile was infectious. This is what makes me love photography so much. It’s what gets me going! Looking down at the back of the camera and seeing those shots that you just know are going to be your favourites is addictive. Again, movement plays a big part in this series. I am especially pleased with the purple wall “can-can” style shots that I directed – Fun! Once again gigantic THANK-YOU to The Photography Parlour.

Movement. I just LOVE movement in my photographs. I think this stems from doing high end fashion retouching as often times those sorts of images have an element of movement in them. My collection of Vogue’s which I keep for tear sheets of my retouching work, help as a great reference for inspiration. I remember during a shoot last year with Kat from Rock n Roll Bride she turned to me and said “I have never moved around that much during a photo shoot!” Nathalieh reminded me a lot of America’s Next Top Model winner, Jaslene. I am a huge fan of that show!

I was very drawn to the styling for this one and especially the birdcage style hat with Vintage Dress. I actually spotted Nathalieh sitting around after getting ready and I thought… mmmm yes! I would love to shoot her. Luckily for me I ended up having her as my model in the first group of the day.

Sara Friar is a very talented body painting artist and helped out on the day with the other model’s make-up as well as stepping up to the proverbial plate and modeling herself. This is another of Craig’s model’s from the The Photography Parlour get together in Bristol. I just can’t believe how well it worked out that the groups we pulled out of the hat meant that we got to shoot three different girls and so have six in total to show off here.

It’s the morning of The Photography Parlour Get Together and Rosie begins to draw the names out of the hat for each group, those who wanted to be in the same group as partners or friends had put both names on one piece of paper. Craig’s name was called first and when Rosie asked “Are you sure you don’t want to be in the same group as Chanelle” his answer was a resounding No. Now, some people looked at us with a slight question mark but the fact of the matter is we had spoken about this before the event. Craig said to me in passing that he thought perhaps we should shoot on our own. That was exactly what I was thinking.

We shoot together a lot. We shoot weddings together, we shoot engagement sessions together, so this was a great opportunity for us to go along and see how other photographers work. To see how other photographer direct, pose and interact with their subjects. It also meant that we forged double the amount of friendships and produced double the amount of images to show on here. As luck would have it Craig got three models that I did not shoot. There where 8 models and three chances to shoot throughout the course of the day. I got 3 unique girls to Craig. Things just worked out well overall.

This model was another one of Craig’s set from the day.

Miss Cherry Delight

Craig: Meeting up with fellow photographers for a days shoot certainly has its fair share of apprehension. We leave ourselves open to scrutiny as we expose the soft underbelly of our own insecurities. We unwittingly build up an air of expectations for ourselves and from our peers with unnecessary pressure.
The Photography Parlour G2G organised by Rosie Parsons was overwhelmingly generous. It did not take long to realise the scale of organisation from everybody involved. That people gave of themselves to such an extent was remarkable.

As photographers we were treated to a host of models who were tirelessly worked on by makeup artists. Vintage dresses were also supplied for a variety of shooting locales. We even had the opportunity to shoot various detail shots of a meticulously laid out wedding table ordained with the most exquisite cakes ,flowers and vintage tea sets. All this with the added bonus of having the exclusive use of The Harmony II as our base.

Our expectations of the day were exceeded far beyond what we expected. It was a refreshing realisation that through the initial anxiety everybody shared the same passion of photography, and as such were very eager to share and learn from like minded people. I can honestly say we were truly blessed to be part of such an enjoyable occasion. I can only hope that every photography get together will be as beneficial, but for us the marker has well and truly been laid.

Siobhan Marie

The first of the model portfolio shots I am going to share is with the lovely Siobhan Marie. This was my second group of the day at The Photography Parlour meet up in Bristol. We headed out and found some interesting, modern areas to use as a backdrop not far from the Floating Harbour. We took turns in directing the model and I had the lovely Rosie Parsons herself in my group, she even stole my 85mm F1.8 lens for the duration of this session and has now added it to her list of “must have” photography gear!

Shots I have included here are all shots that I directed except for Shot 3b (silver background) which was posed by Rosie. Nice one!

Baby Photography in Surrey {baby Joe}

Penny contacted me after Claire had emailed baby Madison’s photo shoot to her baby group in Woking, Surrey. She loved the documentary “at home” style of baby photography and wanted the same thing for baby Joe. He was a really good boy through the 2 hours I spent at their house and I think that letting baby be at home and feel relaxed helps to produce some lovely, natural shots.

Family Photography in Brighton / Henfield {Roworth Family}

Last week I went down to Brighton and Hove area to photograph little Ashtyn and her parents Aiden & Ginette. Ashtyn recently turned two and is just so full of life and talkative! When I asked Ginette about Ashtyn as she is now, this is what she said “What I love the most about her is her happy personality – Ashtyn only knows happiness – she is always dancing, singing, jumping and chatting. She talks to everyone and asks them their name, she kisses, cuddles and hugs all the time! She is also strong willed, bossy and has already developed quite the sense of humour.” This is what I hoped to capture during the documentary family portrait session.

Baby’s Got Blue Eyes {Lambourne Family}

On Monday I made my way over to the Lambourne Family home in Woking Surrey to do a family photo shoot. The concept behind my family shoots is to do documentary style photographs in your own home. Baby Madison turned six months on the day I was there for the shoot and she was as good as gold. A really happy, smiley baby! One Expressive Baby {Kearney Family}

Although we mainly shoot weddings we do love to shoot baby, child and family portraits. My mantra for these is to try to capture the essence of of the family in there own home. Real moments, real emotions – just the way you would want to remember your baby at this age. Fiona contacted me a while back about baby portraits of her little Genevieve. I traveled up to Brendan and Fiona’s London home and spent two hours with them and their 8 month old. Here are the results of the lifestyle portraits…
