Jewish Wedding Reception at St George’s Hall

Here is part two of the Jewish Simcha (Wedding) that we shot on the 30th of December up in Liverpool at St George’s Hall.
I just love the enormous festivities of a Jewish wedding with the traditional Israeli dancing which starts from the beginning of the night and continues intermittently between heartfelt speeches from friends and family.

St George’s Hall is a Grade I listed building and it opened for public use in 1854.
It is a truly unique venue with the most amazing ballroom where the reception was held.

Ben and Victoria’s wedding is the third time we have had the pleasure of shooting a Jewish wedding.
I am just astounded at the traditions, ceremony and general upbeat nature of these weddings.
There is so much joy and fun being spread around and so many a fantastic opportunities for getting amazing Photojournalistic images!

I wanted to share the lovely email that we got from Victoria:
“Thank you so much for sending us the link to the photos, and for getting them done so quickly. It was so great to come home from honeymoon to your email….and your stunning photographs. You totally captured the mood of the day and we are thrilled with them. Our parents are really pleased with them too, and one of my friends commented that she wants to get married again so she can have you to take her photos!”

Victoria and Ben also went to Zanzibar for their honeymoon and I have been reminiscing about ours which was even at the same hotel!
Ben is a keen photographer and came back with some great shots from the trip.

Jewish wedding at Hendal Hall Hotel {Dena and Mark}

When I received this email from Dena earlier this year, I thought it was more than a tad bit ironic that we happen to be South African too…

“I am looking for a wedding photographer for my wedding later this year. The photography is for me one of the most important aspects of the day.
I have been searching for the perfect photographer for ages, but have so far only found one in South Africa.”

Perhaps there was some sort of similarity in our style – when I first spoke to Dena she was over the moon to learn of my heritage! Small world.

If you follow our blog you would have seen the Orthodox Jewish wedding I shot earlier this year. I shot that as a second shooter in order to gain familiarity before Dena & Mark’s wedding as well as for the one we are going to be shooting at the end of December up in Liverpool. I am delighted to have booked yet another Jewish Wedding for August 2010 and look forward to plenty more in the future. We are also very keen to cover Bar and Bat Mitzvahs in our style of photography, so please do get in touch.

Jewish Wedding Reception, Mozeltoff!

As promised in the post below, here are the pictures from the Jewish Wedding Reception held at the Thistle Hotel near Heathrow. The dancing was truly amazing – and a bit scary at times! It took me a few minutes to get really stuck in but in the end I was right in the heart of the action. Mozeltoff!

Orthedox Jewish Wedding (Simcha) Photography London

I am going to post this Jewish Wedding in two parts. There was so much action going on during the Jewish wedding reception that I think it deserves it’s very own post! The Jewish dancing is just amazing. The Jewish wedding ceremony took place at the Edgware United Synagogue in North London. As this was an Orthodox wedding it means that the couple have never touched eachother – not even held hands before. They where such a sweet couple and looked so happy on the day! I think the documentary style coverage really lends itself to a lot of black and white. I was second shooting with a Jewish wedding photographer, Itamar of Simcha Photography. He has been shooting Jewish celebrations including weddings and Bar and Bat Mitzvahs for 15 years. Itamar was up at the front covering the ceremony traditions in and around the Chuppah and I was able to move around the Synagogue taking photojournalistic shots and a great wide shot from the very top looking down onto everyone.

The Chuppah represents a Jewish home symbolized by the cloth canopy and the four poles. Just as a chuppah is open on all four sides, so was the tent of Abraham open for hospitality. Thus, the chuppah represents hospitality to one’s guests. This “home” initially lacks furniture as a reminder that the basis of a Jewish home is the people within it, not the possessions.

It was fantastic to see how the day unfolds as Craig and I will be shooting two Jewish weddings at the end of this year. One is in North London in November and the other is up in Liverpool at St Georges Hall at the end of December. We have never been up to Liverpool before and are really looking forward to spending a few nights in the city centre.
