Botleys Mansion Wedding

Fareen & Saadi’s wedding, with pink and gold details, was super gorgeous and had such attention to detail. They tied the knot at Botleys Mansion in Surrey which is a striking wedding venue that always reminds me of something you would stumble upon in the French countryside. I know that Fareen, together with Louise the planner, did a sterling job of coming up with gorgeous details for the wedding. Very nicely done!

Bombay Brasserie {Part 2}

Jo & Asif are off on honeymoon from today. We did their western wedding celebration at The Berkeley Hotel yesterday. For now here is part 2 of the Asian reception at Bombay Brasserie. The speeches at both days made me hold back tears. The words where just so close to home for me and very touching. It really drives the fact that documenting days like these with your family are just so important and we are so blessed to be able to do this for a living.

Bombay Brasserie {Part 1}

This is the first part of Jo & Asif’s Asian reception at The Bombay Brassarie. The couple got ready together at their gorgeous mews apartment in central London and jumped in black cabs to head over to the restaurant in true London city style. For this day there was no ceremony as the Nikah had already been held previously. In the Pakistani culture (Asif’s family) the groom’s family hosts one wedding reception and the bride’s family hosts the other. I will follow this post with a Part 2 and we will be shooting the Western style wedding this coming weekend at The Berkeley Hotel near Hyde Park. I just loved Jo’s outfit which was selected by Asif’s mother. Great choice!

Turquoise and Gold

I have said it once and I will say it again.
I just love the colours found in Asian Weddings.
Especially this mix of turquiose and gold.

Here is a wedding that I was commissioned by the South African based photographers, ZARAZOO to shoot on their behalf towards the end of last year.

Beautiful Bengali Wedding at the Intercontinental

Leonard and Sue where married at the 5 star Intercontinental Hotel in Park Lane, London near Hyde Park. The day began with a western style wedding with a civil ceremony, creative shoot in the western wedding outfits – then 3 hours of hair and make-up (yes that is correct, 3 hours!) for the outfit change. Sue wore a traditional green and gold Bengali Wedding Sari which was absolutely stunning and very heavy to wear. I just love Asian Wedding Photography as there is so much colour and loads of action going on!

I shot this wedding along with Andre of exclusive South African wedding photographers Zarazoo Photography. Andre and Stefan have spent two months here in the UK and are now coming to the end of their say for this year. They will be returning in summer next year and will be taking bookings for weddings during that time once again. They are based in Cape Town and work closely with high end wedding planner Aleit of The Aleit Group. We are going to be in South Africa ourselves for a wedding at a game reserve in April 2010 and are looking to book a couple more weddings during our stay.

Here is the creative shoot from the Asian wedding that I shot with South African photographer Stefan Steenkamp of Zarazoo. It was absolutely pouring with rain during the shoot and the couple where really good sports and happy to take a walk in the downpour! It was real duck’s weather… (see one of the pictures below). The hindu wedding ceremony was held at The Conservatory at Painshill Park in Surrey.

An explosian of colour!

For this wedding I collaborate with Stefan Steenkamp of Exclusive South African wedding photography studio Zarazoo . Stefan is in the UK for two months covering a number of weddings here. This was my first Asian Wedding and I absolutely loved it. The colours, the vibrancies, Manju’s gorgeous asian wedding make-up, the Hindu wedding ceremony or Shaadi. The majority of the wedding ceremony took place within the Mandap (the four-pole canopy). The sacred fire in the Mandap symbolises not only the illumination of the mind, knowledge and happiness but is also a clean and pure witness to the ceremony as it progresses. The ceremony itself is a collection of rituals performed by the bride, bridegroom and their respective parents and close relatives. The priest chants “mantras” from the Vedas. He will also use the following in his ceremonies:

Fresh flowers – to signify beauty;
Coconut – to signify fertility;
Rice, jaggery and other grains – to signify the food necessary for sustenance of human life;
Ghee (purified butter) – to feed the sacred fire;
Kumkum (vermilion) – red powder used for marking the forehead to signify good luck and to say that your soul (husband) is with you.

Here are my photographs from the hindu wedding preparations and hindu marriage ceremony. Creative shoot to follow.

Shilarohana (stepping on the stone). The bride places her right foot on a stone. The bridegroom tells her to be as firm as the stone in his house so that the can face their enemies and the difficulties of life together.
