“Born and bred in South Africa, I joined the Air Force after leaving
school as an Air Space Control Operator. After 5 years I left as an
Electronic Warfare Operator to pursue a career in IT. Although a
career in IT seemed like a logical step to take at the start of what
would be a golden era for Information Technology, I found myself
surrounded by people who had a great passion for their chosen career
path. It was a passion that I did not possess.
When Chanelle and I moved to the UK in 2000 we had an insatiable
desire to travel. Coming from South Africa, the lure of mainland
Europe by means of low cost airlines was an opportunity we grabbed
with both hands. Although I had used a camera before, it was during
our travels with Chanelle’s Pentax MZM that I was first introduced to
photography. I had become acutely aware that while we were
experiencing it, we took certain situations for granted. Only upon
reflecting on our images did we appreciate the significance of where
we had been and what we had experienced. A realisation that still
fascinates me and one of the reasons why I endeavour to capture any
memorable occasion as accurately as possible.
At the age of 27 I had discovered a passion that did not involve
surfing, but would reward me on a much more conscience level. A
decade later and passion has allowed me the opportunity to work with
my wife in an industry that I love and will be forever grateful for.
It has given me opportunities I may never have had, while fortunately
doing what I love. Having been published in various magazines and
nominated for several awards, I have also been entrusted to capture
the most memorable of days by some wonderful couples. Whether it’s a
local engagement shoot or a wedding in Bali, my focus is always to
produce stunning images which I would be proud of and my clients would
be thrilled with.” – Craig Bruce
